Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

Over time, our smiles naturally begin to show their age. When you have old metal fillings, cavities, and broken or missing teeth, your smile may not help you to put your best face forward. Sometimes you can even even notice ugly dark lines beginning to form around your existing porcelain crowns or bridges. These things can definitely have a negative effect on your general health as well as your appearance and confidence.

Crowns

A crown, sometimes referred to as a cap is a type of restoration that completely covers your entire tooth. This allows us to restore the original size & shape of your tooth. When a crown is done well, it should look completely natural; only your dentist or dental hygienist knows for sure! A crown may become necessary when it is not possible to repair a severely broken or damaged tooth with a simple filling. In this case, your dentist may recommend need stronger restoration. A crown may also help to protect your teeth from further wear or damage, such as cracking or chipping. We often recommend a crown to strengthen a tooth after root canal treatment for this reason.

Your dentist at Markham Stouffville Smile Centre will first clean away any decay and then design you a crown that is custom fitted for your mouth. Next, your new crown will be cemented in place and checked to provide the perfect fit.

By ensuring that you keep up with your regular dental check-ups at Markham Stouffville Smile Centre and maintain good oral hygiene habits at home, you will be rewarded with a crown that lasts a very long time.

Porcelain Bridges

A bridge is a type of custom made restoration that is permanently bonded to two or more teeth to replace one or more missing teeth. Using bridgework, we are able to provide a non-removable tooth replacement without requiring the dental surgery that is necessary when placing dental implants. Dental bridges may be a more affordable alternative to implants for tooth replacement. In rare cases, some people are not good candidates for dental implants due to oral health issues or medical concerns; in these cases, we may recommend a bridge as an alternative for tooth replacement.

Sometimes we may even be able to replace a partial denture with a bridge. It is so nice to not have to remove a denture every night! When we fabricate a bridge, special care is taken to match the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth. We can even improve on the these things!

As with all restorative & cosmetic dental procedures, excellent home care and regular routine dental check-ups will help to prolong the life of your bridgework.
