There’s plenty of reasons to take proper care of your teeth and gums. Some of them have to do with appearance and others have to do with function. What you may not know is that taking care of your teeth also impacts your quality of life and your general health. If you are curious about why your teeth matter other than to make it easier to smile or eat, consider these three reasons.

Aids in Detection of Many Health Issues

Did you know that problems with the teeth can be indicative of other kinds of health ailments? Many dentists in Markham are capable of spotting signs that you need to schedule an appointment with your physician, based on the condition of the teeth and the appearance of the gums. Since early detection leads to swift treatment, choosing to take care of your teeth by undergoing an annual dental checkup is one way to con-trol or resolve whatever health issue you are facing.

Health issues like diabetes, heart problems, and certain forms of cancer create signs that a dental professional can identify. Choosing to have an annual oral exam does more than protect your teeth; it could also lead to the detection and treatment of a condition that needs attention now rather than later.

You Might Live Longer

There are many studies that indicate people who keep their natural teeth longer are likely to live for more years. Some indicate that if you still have all your teeth (and they are in good condition) by the time you reach your seventh decade, the odds of making to your 100th birthday are higher. Your Markham dentist can help you understand why maintaining good oral health has such an impact on your life expectancy, and what you can do to keep those teeth in excellent shape for a longer period of time.

Enjoy Life to the Fullest

Health teeth benefit you in all sorts of ways. Did you ever wonder what it would be like to chew without sound teeth? Perhaps you had a small sense of how things would be if you’ve ever had a toothache and couldn’t chew on one side. It was awkward, and maybe you found it harder to chew your food thoroughly. Maybe you even had a bit of indigestion afterward. Imagine living with that every day.

Simple things like a conversation are also affected by the condition of your teeth. If some are missing or worn down, it will impact your ability to enunciate properly. Either people have to put more effort into understanding what you say, or you end up holding back and not participating in discussions as often as you would like. You are also less likely to smile and laugh when you are around other people.

If your teeth are in good condition, you can chew with greater ease. It’s certainly simpler to participate in conversations and feel comfortable enough to smile and laugh at social gatherings. In this sense, taking care of the teeth is one way you get to enjoy life more.

Everyone here is very friendly and provides excellent care. I received a full exam on my first visit, and everyone took time to answer my questions and ensured I felt comfortable the entire time - exactly what you want when visiting the dentist. There is an ample parking space before you get into the office. The receptionists welcome us friendly with proper COVID-19 procedures in place. The staff worked with patient very patiently and professionally. My teeth cleaning was done by Ying, she explained every detail to me and I did not feel any pain or uncomfortable at all. Thanks to the best team !

It's been a while since I've been to a dentist but I'm trying to get back on track with health in general. Overall it was great going to Markham Smile Centre! The receptionist (I believe she was Kim) was friendly. The hygienist, Ying, was attentive and gentle during the cleaning; x-ray tech (forgot her name, sorry!) was great too. Dr. Sara Riad explained things with good detail. Looking forward to going back!

I was someone who was nervous and anxious about visiting the dentist, but the team at Markham Smile Centre has made me feel SO comfortable. Kim is so patient and helpful and Dr. Hwang and Rory are both so professional and wonderful. They thoroughly explain the procedure to make you comfortable beforehand and are very gentle. I now look forward to visiting the dentist!

The clinic was clean and the staff was very polite. I particularly liked the fact that everything was explained to me before going in for the procedure so I knew what to expect at each step. The dental hygienist who did the cleaning for me was also very gentle and took my concerns into consideration. I will definitely recommend them.

Upon arriving to the Markham Smile Centre, my son and I were greeted with a warm welcome by the receptionists. The hygienists and Dentist were very gentle and transparent with what they were doing. The hygienist that worked on my 9 year old son was patient and very friendly with him, which helped ease his nerves. Our overall experience was A+.

Since I was little, I have always hated going to the dentist... Its always uncomfortable and unpleasant. These days, visiting the dentist isn’t so bad! Dr Jason, Rory, and the lovely staff at reception make the experience 100x better. I have had absolutely no issues with the gum graft and cleanings that I’ve gotten done here. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful, even when I’m calling in or emailing a hundred questions :). I would highly recommend Markham Smile Centre.
